Here's How Much Power A 400,000 Mile Mercedes E55 AMG Makes
If you’re a YouTuber with an older car, especially a motor with a lot of miles on the clock, the de rigueur thing to do is whack it on the dyno. Doug DeMuro has done it with his Dodge Viper, Tyler Hoover with his 243,000 mile Porsche 911 Carrera, and even we’ve had a crack using the legendary E36 BMW M3 ‘Lemon’.
So, it should come as no surprise that the owner of this 402,000 mile W211 Mercedes E55 AMG decided to stick it on the dyno to see how much power it’s making now. After all, 402,000 miles is a considerable innings for any car, let alone an AMG super saloon.
However, as we often see with these dyno sessions, the results aren’t what you’d expect. From the factory the E55’s 5.4-litre supercharged V8 put out 469hp at the crank, and over 400k miles later, this one manages a healthy, calculated 441 crank horsepower. Some claim Mercedes’ original figures were a tad conservative, but even so, 441hp for a car that’s travelled the equivalent of 16 times around Earth’s equator is not bad at all.
Where it gets really interesting is the torque: the official figure is 516lb ft, but this leggy E55 managed 547lb ft. Again, maybe Merc’s numbers were conservative, but regardless, we’re impressed, particularly because the dyno’s weather correction system wasn’t working. Given that it was tested in less than ideal hot and humid conditions, it might be able to offer up even more power and torque…

And then the cars from cheap car challenges on Top Gear seemed to lose about 20bhp a year!
lol
The cars you mention are more than 50 years old, and one of them was built by Peugeot.
What do most AMGs of that mileage put on the ground?
Coolant
Jeremy approves
My mercedes I just bought never had any power to loose from the factory, so Im good.
Its one of the slowest cars ever made haha
Also that tiny fan
Go on. Am listening.
You know that makes like 200-300 hp stock right?
Lol this thing has 200-300hp stock and it’s an older car than the E55 AMG so it’d most likely have even less power than the E55 if it was sitting at 400K miles on the counter
Also please get out of here with your Supra fanboyism, go back to Facebook
Why would someone disabled drive a Supra? Or rather how?
Because nobody should let disability stop them from living their passions and disabled people can use hand controls for driving…
There double amputies in drift championships and touring car championships and motorcycle racing, and this is the best you can come up with?
damn 400 000 miles in a mercedes amg ….anyone gonna ask how ?? i mean i have heard all my life that mercs are un reliable . did he rebuilt the engine or what ??? damn im impressed and curious all the same
The owners must have spent more money on maintaining the car than the original cost of buying it
This here is one of the highlights of true performance car ownership, or as people with money call it curating.
