I’m sure most of us have seen the BMW Z1’s weird ‘disappearing’ doors in action, but it’s fascinating to see the way they work in greater detail. Not to mention how they affected the rest of the car’s design.

They put the funky doors just to take your attention away from the plastic panels. For a firm as committed to squeezing out every last bit of performance out of a car, this does seem strange
