Here's What A Car Looks Like After Spending 28 Years At The Bottom Of A River

This poor Nissan Sentra was stolen 28 years ago, and has presumably spent much of that time at the bottom of a river. Watch as its deformed structure is pulled from the water...

Thanks to the ‘Clean River Project’ of Methuen, Massachusetts, this long missing 1986 Nissan Sentra has been recovered from the bottom of the Merrimack River. It’s not in particularly good condition (think ‘needs TLC’ on a Craigslist/eBay advert), as it was stolen way back in 1988, and has presumably spent almost all that time submerged in river water.

What’s interesting is this isn’t an isolated case: the Clean River Project has already recovered six cars from rivers in the area, and has a grant from the Massachusetts Environmental Trust to remove 20 vehicles from local waterways.

You could sell it as “low milage”, “stored for 28 years”.

If it was a volvo you could simply go under water, turn it on and drive it out of the river…

Technically without the presence of air, metal cant rust? Like how wood can not rot if compleatly sumberged.

I think H2O has something for the metal to react with lol.
In my dark days we did interesting stuff, one of them doubled as an experiment. So, me and some close friends once dropped two (I think bare metal though it was black so idk) tables into a pool so we could take a picture or video of one of us supposedly walking on water. Anyway, we left those tables for around 24 hours inside the pool, and we only took them out because someone was very pissed off at our “experiment”, and surprise surprise, half of both tables rusted.

IF completely submerged.A car with it’s back sticking out of the water will eventually rust, but a completely submerged one will not because there is no contact with oxygen.Or atleast that’s what 6th grade Chemistry thought me. :D

It can still rot

Without oxygen metal cant rust. There is a relatively small amount of oxygen atoms in water, but it is still plenty to make metal rust and decay. Without oxygen in the water there would be no fish or sea plants because they live off of the oxygen.
