Here’s What The New Four-Cylinder Porsche Boxster 718 Sounds Like From Behind The Wheel
Does the Boxster still sound as good now it's switched to turbo four-pot power? Thanks to this onboard video - shot during the first round of passenger rides for journalists - we get a good idea!
A few weeks ago, Porsche confirmed what we’d long been expecting: the Boxster is switching from flat-sixes to an all-new range of turbocharged flat-fours. As we explained in our in-depth look at the new ‘718 Boxster’, the new engines are much more powerful, but how do they sound? This onboard video gives us a good idea.
You can also just about hear some engine noise in the new video below from Porsche, although it’s drowned out by some thumping music.
Our verdict on the new engine note? Certainly not a bad noise, but not a patch on the old sixes.
What do you think?

that thing sounds MEAN
It sounds like the speakers are playing a noise in the cabin. Or is that just me?
Think it does
Apparently it doesn’t naff stereo augmented sound, but I’m yet to double check that with Porsche myself
Lame.
As little barbeque said it sounds as if there’s a lot of compensation for the noise. There’s good sounding turbo-4’s out there but this sounds wayyy too scripted.
And since Audi has been doing active engine noise through the speakers it wouldn’t surprise me if Porsche was doing it too.
A new boxster ?

The fuel economy seems to be shockingly bad though
Still better than the 2016 Mustang GT ;)
sounds like a video game exhaust
Still sounds better than Gran Turismo
10/10; would swap into my WRX
Not bad
Sound reminds me of the P1 0.o
