Here’s What The New Four-Cylinder Porsche Boxster 718 Sounds Like From Behind The Wheel
Does the Boxster still sound as good now it's switched to turbo four-pot power? Thanks to this onboard video - shot during the first round of passenger rides for journalists - we get a good idea!
A few weeks ago, Porsche confirmed what we’d long been expecting: the Boxster is switching from flat-sixes to an all-new range of turbocharged flat-fours. As we explained in our in-depth look at the new ‘718 Boxster’, the new engines are much more powerful, but how do they sound? This onboard video gives us a good idea.
You can also just about hear some engine noise in the new video below from Porsche, although it’s drowned out by some thumping music.
Our verdict on the new engine note? Certainly not a bad noise, but not a patch on the old sixes.
What do you think?

Actually, Its not bad at all!
But 6 cylinders are better.
It sounds like a 1.0 Ford Focus while somebody playing videogame inside it
Damn, sounds so… BAD!!!!
It’s begging for UEL headers.
When I saw the video title I thought it was some gangster who uploaded it with really bad grammar xD “Mee in de Porsche homie”
I think Porsche build a car that sounds like a Subaru and I built a Subaru that sounds like a Porsche. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uB843NoOf3Y
991 to 991.2 Is not so bad, but this is just different worlds.
I prefer the sound of the Alfa 4C. It sounds much angrier IMHO and those turbo whooshes… :D big grin
I’m thinking they might be using similar tech to the golf R for the sound.
Sounds like a bmw bike…
