Here's What You Need To Know About The First Ever Ford F-150 Diesel
It’s been years in the making, but the wait is finally over for the first ever diesel-powered Ford F-150. Although Ford has long promised an optional 3.0-litre V6 Power Stroke turbodiesel for the stupidly popular pickup truck, the firm has been pretty tight-lipped on its specifications until now.
We’re looking at a 3.0-litre engine that produces 247bhp and 440lb ft of torque, with an EPA-estimated highway fuel consumption rating of 30mpg. Peak torque comes in at just 1750rpm, and the standard 10-speed automatic gearbox should help ensure maximum efficiency.
With an estimated 916kg payload and 5170kg towing capacity, the F-150 Power Stroke offers best-in-class capability. That might not be saying much though, since arguably the only other truck in its ‘class’ is the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. Interestingly, though, the V6 Power Stroke does have a higher tow rating than the 2018 Ram equipped with the muscular 5.7-litre HEMI V8. That’s pretty impressive for an engine with two fewer cylinders and nearly half the displacement.
Details on pricing are still unknown, but Ford says it’ll be taking orders for the diesel F-150 in the middle of the month, with delivery estimated for this spring.

Still prefer the Powerstroke V8 diesel
V8 any day 💯
Too much for this truck. This diesel f150 seems to be less capable than the gas one. Maybe because added weight
Why do people say the smaller engine is more impressive when it has turbos strapped to it?
cause they’re suprised that it didnt blow up yet :P
Because its a diesel. Very different beast.
Because it is?
See thats nice and all.. but theres one issue.. theres a six there instead of an eight
Yeah but it’s a diesel. The 5.0 is still available and that engine is underrated, it’s a great engine.
Why is that an issue?
This is actually good, if more companies would come up with smaller diesel engines i6n U.S trucks we might see more american trucks in europe finally.
What I don’t understand is the lack of full sized pickups in Australia
440 lb ft of torque for this ‘monster’? Meh
It’s just a half-ton truck
How much do you need?
I really can’t understand these giants. Well, I understand them for the people that actually tow stuff with them and use them, seems like most people just drive these around because they want to feel bigger on the road. Maybe it is just a part of the culture.
You can do pretty much anything with them. They offer a level of luxury which rivalises with any other SUV or normal car, you can put a lot of things in the bed, you have good off-road capability, you can tow stuff (like a boat or a trailer, or a caravan), and people like these because they’re high and offer more safety.
Itge f150 isn’t giant. The reason people like them is because they’re good at everything
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I like the F250 but a Diesel F150 sounds good also the Nissan Titan diesel has pretty similar performance figures to the f150
But the Titan is ugly, has less capability, needs a longer warranty as a selling point, and is a Nissan.
I’ll pass. Give me an f-150 with the 5.0 v8 instead.
I’ll take the 3.5EB.
Own an ram ecodiesel with 50k miles, and nothing but good and happy feelings about it!
