Here's Why The 2014 F1 Season Will Be The Year Of The Phallus
Following on from McLaren, Ferrari and Sauber's F1 2014 car launches last week, more of this year's F1 machinery has been unveiled.
Scuderia Toro Rosso revealed its new car on Monday at the Jerez circuit, where winter testing is currently taking place. The STR9 features a rather phallic nose design, and will be driven this season by Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniil Kvyat.
The Jerez pit lane was a hive of activity on Tuesday morning with five scheduled car launches prior to winter testing. In the end, however, only three took place after Marussia and Caterham were forced to delay the unveiling of their 2014 machines.
Mercedes kicked things off by uncovering the elegant W05, which - unlike the majority of its rivals - is actually a nice-looking car. Nico Rosberg completed a shakedown at Silverstone last week prior to the first test. Lewis Hamilton will partner the German driver once again.
Next up, Red Bull Racing launched its RB10. The team hopes to take title number five this season, with Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo driving for the Milton Keynes-based squad this year. Unlike its sister team Toro Rosso, design genius Adrian Newey has actually managed to make the thin-tipped nose design look good. Just about.
Force India officially unveiled its VJM07 just 15 minutes before the start of testing. The team previously released a profile shot of the car on Twitter, and it looked reasonable. But from the front? Oh dear. Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez will race for the team in 2014.
Unlike Marussia, rivals Caterham did manage to get its new car out on track eventually. There was no launch for the CT05, but the unusual looking 'green machine' was unveiled as it emerged from the team's pit garage on Tuesday afternoon, causing quite a stir in the process....
