According to NBC, the incident took place on Monday in Sunnyvale, Northern California. A spokesman from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said Deputies Lance Whitted and Erik Rueppel were in the area when they heard a vehicle crash into the crossing guard.

They ran to the car, which had major front-end damage, and saw a train fast approaching. One police officer ran onto the tracks to notify the train, while the other pulled the driver from the car. As they were running across the tracks, the driver stumbled and fell, with the office dragging him away just as the train hit.
