This Heroic Volkswagen Kombi Was Crushed In Storms... But Still Drives Fine
It’s been asked before: what’s the perfect vehicle for the apocalypse? Well, we think we finally have the answer: a Volkswagen Kombi.
This Type 2 VW Bus was squashed pretty badly by a falling tree during storms in Brazil. Fortunately no one was inside it at the time, but the trunk nearly cut the poor modern-era Kombi in half. Our intrepid hero isn’t going to be stopped by anything so trivial as being skulled by several tonnes of wood, though. Nope: It’s actually going to go and burn some rubber (sort of).
Although this is the later, water-cooled version, which does have some extra plumbing versus the original one, almost everything involved with making it move is at chassis level or lower. As funny as it looks, it still drives pretty much as normal. Remarkable stuff.

Possibly a distant cousin of this
Comment of the week. And now I ruined it
Meanwhile, reaction of VW engine trollers
The entire drivetrain is in the back… so, as long as the throttle linkage is still intact, there’s no reason an impact to the middle would hurt the engine’s driveabilty.
Craigslist be like: A few small dents and scuffs, runs and drives flawlessly.
Tip top condition
Back then VW’s were made for the eternity, nowadays they’re like (insert overused check engine light) everywhere.
Your move, Volvo…
You were saying?
Whoa I found one reason why its the people’s van
The things that only happen in Brazil. lol

nothing surprising.
engine and gearbox in the back, only surprising thing is that it could still put down power to the ground.
I’m surprised the throttle linkage still is intact.
