A Hobbs/Shaw Fast And Furious Spinoff Has Been Confirmed For 2019

Universal has reportedly confirmed that the 'gap' created by Fast And Furious 9's 2020 release will indeed be plugged by a spin-off
A Hobbs/Shaw Fast And Furious Spinoff Has Been Confirmed For 2019

Last week, Universal Pictures announced that Fast and Furious 9 won’t be released until 10 April 2020, almost a year later than the slot it was initially given.

Immediately, we wondered if it might have something to do with making room for the rumoured spin-off featuring Deckard Shaw and Luke Hobbs - played by Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson, respectively - and sure enough, it seems such a thing is happening in 2019.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal is “officially putting the project [the spin-off] on the calendar” for 26 July 2019. As with every Fast and Furious film from Tokyo Drift onwards, it’ll be written by Chris Morgan.

Donna Langley, chairman of Universal Pictures, told Hollywood Reporter: “The global brand of Fast & Furious is strong and full of iconic characters, and we look forward to continuing to build on the film that started it all, as well as expanding into different narratives beginning with our first spinoff.”

That sounds an awful lot like there’ll be more to come than just this one spinoff, no? Universal clearly has some way to go before it’s finished milking this particular cashcow, but you can hardly blame them - so far the franchise has grossed $5 billion.

The question is, when the Hobbs/Shaw spin-off comes out, will you be watching?

TBH I’m getting tired of seeing the rock in fast and furious, it all went to shit since he showed up and I just want them to start racing eachother instead of trying to kill eachother
