The Honda S660 And Civic Type R Have Been Given The Mugen Treatment

Here are the Mugen-ified cars Honda will be displaying at next month's Tokyo Auto Salon, with performance parts, lairy bodykits and spoilers fitted to the Japanese manufacturer's sportier cars... and some not so sporty ones as well!

As if the Honda S660 wasn’t already one of the coolest cars on sale today, Mugen has gone and modified some of the cuteness out of the funky kei car to somehow make it even more desirable. Sure, it looks more like a poodle with an attitude problem than a starving Rottweiler, but this diminutive ‘sports’ car is transformed by its various vents, lip kit and prominent rear spoiler.

The original car has just 63bhp, however this model has “performance parts that maximise driving excitement.” Mugen doesn’t elaborate on exactly what this means, but judging by the parts catalogue on its website you can expect to find sports suspension, a sports exhaust kit, and uprated brakes.

When it comes to the Civic Type R, Mugen is even more vague with its revelations; all we have to go on are pictures. It does say that it has used its motorsport wind tunnels to develop effective aerodynamics for the new hot hatch, with the front splitter, winglets and rear spoiler currently the most obvious upgrades.

Mugen is still developing performance parts for the new FK2 Civic Type R, so this concept will likely be displayed with purely aesthetic modifications. Watch this space, though; in stock form the engine uses a single, mono-scroll turbo, with ‘VTEC’ kicking in at low revs to eliminate turbo lag. Expect Mugen’s boffins to play around with this setup and different types of turbo to eke even more power from the 2.0-litre unit.

It’s not just enthusiast cars getting a makeover, either. What you see here is the Mugen Step WGN Spada, a modified version of Honda’s intriguing eight-seater MPV. The completely redesigned front bumper gives it an unashamedly aftermarket look, while the rear spoiler is integrated into the odd ‘Waku Waku Gate’ rear door. It might just be me, but this makes my inner ricer jump for joy.

The only thing that I don’t like about those cars is the wheels. I think I like the standard wheels more.
