Honda Will Kill Off All Its Diesel Models In Europe By 2021
Yet another manufacturer is turning its back on diesel, as Reuters reports that Honda will cull all of its derv models in Europe by 2021.
It’s all part of a shifting strategy for Honda in light of falling demand for diesel vehicles and ever more stringent regulations. European Union emission targets state that by 2020, CO2 must be cut to 95g per km for 95 per cent of cars from the current 120.5g average. Cars in the EU must be compliant in 2021.
Honda’s long-term plan to address this is to have two-thirds of its line-up consisting of fully-electric cars by 2030. Its first-ever full EV, the E, goes into production soon.
Earlier this year, Honda revealed it would close its only British car plant in 2021 with the loss of up to 3500 jobs as it prepares to invest heavily in electrification. By 2025, the Japanese giant wants to cut model variations to a third of what is currently on the market, reducing global production costs by 10 per cent.
Let’s just hope all this cost-cutting doesn’t involve dropping the Civic Type R from the mix…

Didn’t even know Honda made Diesel engines
Me neither, but it’s much easier to see them doing EVs
Honda probably make the best diesel engines and have done since 2003
Same xD
Me neither
Ooooo it’s been a while since an editors pick, nice
Why am I more shocked that Honda made diesels in the first place?

I wish they focused on electrification in North America.
I wish they stopped this electric bs and did more hydrogen powered cars.
We have Audi so…it not a great loss.
