How Team CT Battled Hard In A Brutal Karting Competition With Fierce Opponents
Yesterday’s Kart Fight competition at the physically-demanding Team Sport Docklands indoor track was a fierce, brutal and punishing event where 16 companies of four drivers each battled it out in a day of practice and heats to get to the quarter final, semi-final and then the grand final. Of the companies - including Facebook, Datasift, Crowd Cube and Space Ape Games - we (Team CT) were consistently in the top three companies, with CEO founder Adnan winning an astonishing two of his three races, while Gabor and I won one race each.
At the end of the night, Lewis and I had fought our way to the final, and were lined up in eighth and ninth on the grid (dead last). After a quick pep talk that went along the lines of ‘screw it, we’ve got nothing to lose, so let’s go in hard’, we were on the grid and feeling pretty relaxed. To our right were the hopeful (and slightly drunken) faces of our CT family, Ethan, James, Edwin, Darren, John, George and Neil.
When the lights went out, I squeezed and pushed my way into fourth by the second corner and held the position. The dominant Facebook crew created a two-second gap by the half-way mark, and with one lap to go, Lewis was involved in a….how shall we put this…racing incident, which backed the guys in front up, allowing me to slot into third place. Amazingly, our good result meant that CT finished second overall out of the 16 companies, behind the untouchable Facebook team who were simply too fast for us on the night.
What the punishing day taught me is that competitive karting like this is completely different to any karting I, or any of the CT guys have done before. Behind the helmets, we were all anonymous, meaning that we would violently barge, bully, and intimidate our way to the top. We’re already looking forward to the next #KartFight rumble!
Here are some pics of the incredible day:
Massive shout out to the Kart Fight organisers and the marshals at Team Sport Docklands who let us do firm but fair battle.
And Facebook, we’ll see you next year.
