Huge Pile-Up Almost Wipes Out An Entire Touring Car Field
The vast majority of cars taking part in a WTCR race at Vila-Real were taken out in one huge accident
Remember that huge GT pile-up at Macau last year? Something rather similar happened this weekend at a World TCR Championship race at the Vila Real circuit in Portugal.
A tussle between teammates Rob Huff and Mehdi Bennani saw the latter driver’s car launch in the air and spin sideways, blocking much of the narrow street circuit and triggering the huge crash you see above. Almost every car on the grid was involved to some degree.
Unsurprisingly, the race had to be red-flagged. It wasn’t restarted for another two hours, as race officials had to repair damaged crash barriers.
