The Hyundai Genesis AR550 Is A 550bhp Supercharged M5 Fighter

Whenever Sema comes around you can be sure we’ll be treated to any number of weird and wonderful cars from mod shops out to make an impact. On the other end of the scale, mainstream manufacturers also head to the Las Vegas Convention Centre to show off their latest vehicles with the wildest modifications they’d never get away with anywhere else.

Hyundai is one such manufacturer, and has just revealed its latest Sema concept: the Genesis AR550. Tuned by ARK Performance, veterans of the Hyundai Sema scene, this super saloon has been created to take on Germany’s finest AMG/M Division monsters head-on. With the likes of the BMW M5 in its sights, the AR550 takes the standard Genesis’ beefy 5.0-litre V8, and straps a Rotrex supercharger to the side. Working with the ARK free-flow exhaust system, a performance intake system and downpipes, a 130bhp jump in power is achieved, taking this Korean cruiser up to a heady 542bhp.

The suspension gets a do-over, too, to firm up the standard car’s comfortable cruising nature and to reduce body roll, while a Brembo Big Brake Kit helps to bring things to a stop.

It wouldn’t be Sema without exterior modifications, and the AR550 is no different. It gets lightweight forged wheels, which tuck neatly under the wide arches. The front and rear bumpers have also been given the wide treatment with carbonfibre accents, while the interior gets lavished with custom diamond stitched seats and panels.

Sema, which stands for Specialty Equipment Market Association, takes place in Las Vegas between 4 November and 7 November this year.
