Ever since the Hyundai N Vision 74 concept made everyone stop what they were doing and gawp at it for a bit back in 2022, we’ve been clamouring for a production version, and rumours have come and gone that it would be happening. Now, though, it appears to have been confirmed – in a very subtle way – that it’s definitely happening.

Hyundai recently hosted its annual CEO Investor Day, where it detailed its product strategy for the rest of the 2020s. This included an increased focus on hybrids in the shorter term, as well as the introduction of a new range-extender EV and the aim of a lineup of 21 electric cars come 2030.

That last bit included a vague breakdown of the planned models, with a column labelled “high-performance EV.” There, along with further confirmation of more Genesis Magma models, was the line “Hyundai N (vision 74).” That appears to be very subtle confirmation that the retro-styled sports car is heading for production.

Unveiled as a concept in 2022, the N Vision 74 takes its inspiration from the semi-obscure Giugiaro-designed Hyundai Pony Coupe concept from 1974, overhauling it with some deliciously retro box arches and turbofan wheels, as well as a high-performance hydrogen-electric powertrain.

While this announcement seems to hint it could enter production as a pure EV, a report from May of this year from The Korea Economic Daily claimed that it would retain its hydrogen powertrain for a production run.

That report also suggested that Hyundai was targeting a 764bhp output and a 0-62mph time of around three seconds and that it could be building a prototype as soon as this year ahead of a 2026 launch.

While we still don’t have any solid confirmation from Hyundai as to when it’s set to arrive, we’re taking this as very good news indeed. We know from the Ioniq 5 N that Hyundai is capable of building a properly brilliant performance EV, so we’ll be waiting with bated breath to see what it can do with this likely flagship.
