This Iconic Mercedes 300SL Was Recently Killed By A BMW 1-Series
This rare and valuable classic Merc collided with a BMW 1-series at this year's reenactment of the Mille Miglia road race
We apologise for kicking the week off with such glum news, but a Mercedes 300SL 'Gullwing' has been left wrecked at last weekend's Mille Miglia event. During this year's re-enactment of the legendary Italian road race, the Merc collided with a BMW 1-series which was on its way to Rome. The drivers of both cars were taken to hospital, but fortunately the injuries are not thought to be serious.

The same can't be said for the car, which looks to have sustained significant front-end damage. If it's repairable, it ain't gonna be cheap. As sad as it is to see a Gullwing in such a state, though, we should be glad that not all classics as rare and valuable as this are stored away in private collections, never to be used again.
