If You Fancy Used A 997 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, You'd Better Start Saving Hard

Our GTS cabriolet video review has left us with 911s on the brain, and after having a little hunt through the classifieds, this incredible (and incredibly pricey) GT2 RS caught our eye...

In light of our recent Porsche 911 GTS video review, we’ve got Porsche fever again. The GTS sits between the S and the hardcore GT3 in the current 991-generation 911 range, with the option of the new GT3 RS if the standard one doesn’t quite cut it. The 997 911, however, had two even more manic options: the GT2 and GT2 RS.

The latter ball of fury from Stuttgart remains the most hardcore stock 911 ever built. Think of it as a GT3 RS with the engine from the Turbo S stuffed in the back. And even more power. 611bhp, in fact. And unlike the Turbo, all of that six-pot grunt goes through the rear wheels, rather than all four.

With an anal approach to weight saving, the whole shebang tips the scales at a relatively lithe 1370kg, so it’s fast. Seriouesly fast. 0-62mph in one of these cars? Just 3.5 seconds. Top speed? A rather healthy 205mph. Should do.

GT2 and GT2 RS versions of the 991 remain unconfirmed for now, but if one does arrive, it’ll be a while yet. So for now, you’ll have to settle for a used 997 GT2 RS, but it ain’t gonna be cheap. The fact that Porsche made just 500 of these - as a sort of bombastic last hurrah for the 997 - means that when one is available, a high price can be charged. This one, for instance, is up for £199,990, quite a bit more the original list price of £164,000.

So, it’s about the price of the average UK house. But, it is at least a good investment, with prices only going one way.

Anyone out there rich enough to take the plunge…?
