If You Want A Faster Mk4 Mazda MX-5, You'll Need To Buy A Fiat
While the Toyota GT86 seems to be the prime target in the motoring world for ‘it needs more power’ complaints, the MX-5 has suffered such criticism long before the Toyobaru was even born. Sure enough, the latest Miata was recently confirmed to be carrying on the low power-only ethos of its predecessors, but if you’re one of those people that insist it’d better with more poke, there is an answer from Fiat.
The Italian company’s MX-5 sister car - the 124 Spider - is due to arrive next year, and speaking to Auto Express, Fiat Chrysler Group COO Alfredo Altavilla divulged that the roadster will indeed spawn a faster Abarth version. “You like performance? There will be an Abarth version,” he said. Nice.
So, how much performance are we talking? There is talk of a detuned version of the Alfa 4C’s 237bhp 1.75-litre turbo four-pot appearing under the bonnet, which is a rather enticing prospect, don’t you think? Watch this space.
