I'm Driving A VW Golf GTI Clubsport For Six Months: What Do You Want To Know?

Christmas has come a few days early for TeamCT, as we’ve just been given the keys to this rather dapper hatchback for just under six months. It’s a Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 40 Clubsport - to give it its official name - although I suspect we’ll just end up calling it The Clubsport.

It effectively replaces the BMW M2 we’ve been running since September, although that car will be sticking around for another couple of weeks.

It produces 286bhp when its overboost function kicks in (yo?), and will hit 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds. It’s fitted with VW Group’s fancy VAQ differential, so can send anything up to 100 per cent of that power output to either front wheel if required. It also has a pretty cool aero package, which cancels out lift entirely.

‘Ours’ is the five-door DSG automatic version in Tornado Red, and as such it has the largest base price of the range at £33,005. After adding £1350 bucket seats, £830 adaptive dampers, £595 19-inch alloy wheels and a few other optional bits and pieces, the price inflates to £36,721.

As ever with our long-term test cars, we want you guys to get involved. So, what do you want to know about the Clubsport, and what would you like to see us do with it?

Probably what everyone is thinking about
Q1 Worth it over a regular GTI?
Q2 Is it still a comfortable daily driver? Considering this is even more performance oriented.

FWD vs RWD test. The Golf has a clever diff which should give it advantage over the M2 in the wet and cold conditions. It should be a close one with those two.

Track test it against the current vw golf gti, including a drag race. I’d love to see if the technical differences are as substantial as the price differences

In terms of handling no, but I prefer the engine in this, and it’s easier to live with
