iRacing Teams Up With SRO Motorsports For Two Incredible New Series
The world’s best-known online racing simulator, iRacing.com, is adding to its list of over 40 official series. This week, iRacing.com announced that it has joined forces with SRO Motorsports Group to create two new online racing series: The Blancpain Sprint Series and the Blancpain Endurance Series. The relationship between the two companies began last year, when iRacing.com sponsored the Nürburgring 1000, Round 5 of the Blancpain Endurance Series.
The European interest in iRacing.com grew substantially after the race, and the plans were drawn to keep the progress going. Both companies have remained silent on the matter, until this week when they revealed the partnership for the 2015 series races.
‘The fact that over 1500 iRacers participated in our recent endurance event attests to GT racing’s popularity on the iRacing service. We look forward to working with SRO in developing innovative methods of engaging fans of GT racing the world over.’
Steve Myers, Executive Vice President and Executive Producer at iRacing.com
This isn’t the first major motorsports group to join iRacing.com. The company is partnered with V8 Supercars, IndyCar, GRAND-AM, NASCAR and others, bringing a big variety of virtual racers on board. The move to bring in one of the world’s most competitive GT Series as a promoter could greatly boost the number of online players.
iRacing.com’s Director of Marketing, Kevin Bobbitt, says that Aston Martin and one other manufacturer will eventually come to the series. So far, these are the only cars to be officially announced:
- BMW Z4
- Ford GT
- McLaren MP4-12C
- Aston Martin Vantage V12 GT3 (if Aston Martin is indeed on board)
However, iRacing.com usually tries to include as many components of the real world series as possible. Depending on whether a deal is worked with the manufacturers, some of the other cars in the series could be included. The missing cars that will be in the 2015 Blancpain GT Series are:
- Audi R8 LMS Ultra
- Bentley Continental GT3
- Emil Frey Jaguar G3
- Ferrari 458 Italia GT3
- Lamborghini Gallardo G3 Reiter
- Lamborghini Huracan GT3
- Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3
- Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3
- Porsche 997 GT3-R
Like the other brilliantly recreated virtual tracks on iRacing.com, the tracks of the new series will be laser scanned to provide the most detail. They include:
- Monza
- Silverstone
- Spa-Francorchamps
- Brands Hatch
- Zoler
- Nürburgring (when completed this autumn)
The races will be from thirty minutes to three hours long with mandatory pit stops and driver swaps. Racers can team up with others from all over the world to co-drive the same car. When you participate on iRacing.com, you work your way to the top with your clean driving skills. The progession goes through classes Rookie, Advanced Rookie, Class D, Class C, Class B, Class A, Pro Level and World Championship Level. Once you make it to the top classes, you will be eligible to win large cash prizes for your performance.
