The Isle Of Man Now Has A BAC Mono Police Car

In the latest chapter of the BAC-IOM love story, the island's roads policing unit has just taken delivery of a Police-spec Mono, and it really is going to be used...
The Isle Of Man Now Has A BAC Mono Police Car

Fresh from their work with the Isle of Man government in arranging to close some of the island’s best roads and turn them into a playground for BAC owners for the weekend, it looks like BAC left the island’s police one of its cars to have a bit of fun with.

This is no publicity stunt, though. The Mono police car really is an active member of the island’s roads policing unit. Sure, it’s going to be used at shows and events to promote safer driving, but dodgy drivers really will be getting pulled over by this thing. A multi-point harness isn’t necessarily the most practical feature for a quick exit from a police car, but we’re fairly sure they’ll work around it.

It’s going to be piloted by PC Andy Greaves, a trained advanced driver, police biker and collision investigator. After taking delivery and giving the police Mono its first trip around the island, he said:

“It’s a remarkable vehicle, and clearly will be of huge interest to bikers and car drivers alike. We are here to promote safe use of the road, and it’s amazing how many people want to talk to you when this is your transport.

“Every opportunity we get, we stop and talk to visitors. Having a show-stopper like a BAC Mono police car on the fleet makes that so much easier.”

BAC’s history with the Isle of Man goes right back to the development of the car, when the Liverpool-based company used the island’s roads to help tune the chassis and engine setup to make the car as entertaining as it could be. Who says the law can’t be fun?

But then how will they take criminals to the police station once they’ve been caught? 🤔

I know I’m getting dislikes for this but when police forces around the world use exotic cars like this, they do realise at some point their going to GO TO PURSUIT in theae vehicles sooner or later.

Like you know what happens in some pursuits right? Ramming, pit manuevers, road blocks, there’s more I can add but all these things should be taken into consideration because most of these cars like the BAC mono and Dubai’s Lamborghini Aventador / Nissan GTR r35 would be physically fragile and can’t take that much punishment. Not unless they were reinforced prior to service.

Yes, although I would think they might use it just to keep track of the suspect, or keep pressure on them IF a chopper is unavailable, although most of the time, when a suspect is going BAC Mono speeds, chances are, the cops will be in choppers.

True, but I doubt this car would be used in pursuit. If I was buying a fast pursuit car for a police fleet, I’d get a super saloon or SUV.

IKR the West Midlands Police had a Jaguar XF that they only used for driver training, in this part of the world we are too scared to use high performance vehicles for traffic policing, for God’s sake we try not to damage a Corsa!

I don’t think you quite understand the UK’s pursuit management system. That mono isn’t going anywhere near another car. It would terminated before you could finish the sentence fail to stop.

Unless you drove a car that could go into top speeds of 10mph during a chase…
