It's Looking Even More Likely That Chris Evans Will Be The New Face Of Top Gear

Ever since Jeremy Clarkson was sacked for punching producer Oisin Tymon, speculation has been rife about who might take his place at Top Gear. The name at the top of most people’s lists was Radio 2 presenter and ardent petrolhead Chris Evans, however he was quick to claim he wasn’t interested.

It would appear he’s changed his mind, however, after he told a weekend chat show that he was filming a “secret Top Gear film.” While appearing on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch yesterday, presenter Tim Lovejoy asked if Evans had started filming Top Gear yet, to which he replied “We’re doing a Top Gear sequence with an independent production company and we’re going to see how it goes.”

The comment drew sarcastic responses from Clarkson, Hammond and May on Twitter. The fact Evans is filming with an independent production company implies that this isn’t even an official audition, although it does come across as though he’s making it clear he’s interested. On the other hand, the 49-year-old is working on a new series of TFI Friday, so there’s a chance this ‘secret film’ is merely a skit for the show.

It’ll be interesting to see if Evans does pull a U-turn to present the new Top Gear - to be fair, there are few bigger petrolhead presenters out there. Would you watch Top Gear with Chris Evans at the helm?
