Jaguar Land Rover Model Names Are About To Get More Complicated
You know that confusing new naming structure Audi announced last month? It already has a competitor.
Having already debuted a naming structure for the Range Rover Velar that denotes fuel type and horsepower (for example P380 for the 3.0-litre V6 petrol, D180 for the lower-powered 2.0-litre diesel), Jaguar Land Rover looks set to roll it out to other models.
An Auto Express reader spotted a Jaguar F-Type sporting a P380 badge, so it seems inevitable the new system will eventually be used on every JLR product, perhaps with an ‘E’ designation used for all-electric production cars when they arrive to the stable.
It’s clearer than the bafflingly complex Audi system (where 50 means 210kW - 230kW, obviously), but we still can’t help but think it’s all a little unnecessary. Hopefully there’ll be a nice ‘de-badge’ option in the configurator.

Things these days seems to be complicated. JLR badges, Audi badges, Trump…
I don’t think there’s anything complicated about Trump……just a serious wealthy simpleton :-P
LGBT politics preventing us from going to a NASA competition…
Good sir, do you mind telling me more about your
Land Rover Range Rover Velar Sport P400 Autobiography Special Vehicle Operations Launch Edition

It is indeed. Anything after 18MY
It is indeed. Anything after 18MY
At least it actually makes sense, unlike Audi.
-Can I buy a Velar, please
-Sure. Do you want the “P” or the “D”
-???
-…
More like:
-Can I buy a Velar, please
-Miss, this is a VW dealership. We don’t sell Range Rovers here
It will be more like give me the P now and I will give you the D later 😉😂
Forget the Velar, lemme grip that GTi fam
“Do you want (…) the ‘D’”
Why can’t people not brag about or feel ashamed about the trim they bought? Just show the make and model and make the whole car cleaner and subject to less ogling
uh… Evo owners hate the Lancers guys even more than their direct rival STI of Subaru.
Besides, there exist some weirdos who are willing to pay extra cash just to have the more superior badge to brag while still have no clue what the hell they drive.
Once a friend told me she wants to get IS350 rather than IS250 because she thinks it’s “larger”. I was like.. “the hell?..”
The Velar taillamps looks beautiful in that picture at the top.
This is not a complicated system.
Letter denotes powertrain
Number denotes power
It’s really not that much of an issue, it’s no different to 2.0D or 1.6 16V??
