Jeremy Clarkson 'The Violent Dinosaur The World Doesn't Want' Could Quit BBC

It’s a sad day when Jeremy Clarkson appears to have given up the fight against the regime, but that’s exactly what we, his fans, were faced with in his column in The Sun newspaper today.

In the piece, Clarkson hinted that he was going to quit the BBC show, likening himself to a dinosaur:

“Nature made a mistake when it invented the dinosaur. It was too big, too violent

“All the dinosaurs died and now, years later, no-one mourns their passing. These big, imposing creatures have no place in a world which has moved on.”

Despite a petition to #BringBackClarkson (which has amassed 880,000 signatures), the Top Gear star continued:

“You can start as many campaigns as you like and call on the support of politicians from all sides, but the day must come when you have to wave goodbye to the big monsters, and move on,”

It seems, then, that Jeremy Clarkson has been forced to throw in the towel after years of loyalty to his millions of fans. And while I’m sad that Top Gear will probably end on a very sour note, I can’t be angry with him for giving up. Sure, ‘fracas’ with another man because of no food is extreme and stupid, but it seems to me that if Clarkson really did want to continue with the show, he’d have exercised some restraint.

What the incident shows me is that he’s well and truly fallen out of love with the pressures of being idolised, with being told how to behave and not being able to go swimming in the sea without someone ready and waiting to take an unflattering picture of his beer belly. And if his heart isn’t in it any more, then who are we to tell him otherwise.
