Jiggas In Paris With F-Type

Jaguar's anticipated return to the sports cars is on course with the announcement that its F-Type will debut at the Paris motor show. Did someone say Jiggas in Paris?

The F-Type will be launched as a drop top with three different engines. First up is an all-new 3.0-litre supercharged V6 with 335bhp and 375bhp variants, and there will also be a mighty 5.0-litre V8. All these engines unsurprisingly power the rear wheels, though the eight speed transmission sounds a bit much. Surely a little sports car doesn’t need that many gears. Can you imagine caning your favourite B-road, mashing away through all those cogs?

Jag is keen to mention their sporting heritage, but it's the use of pioneering technology that is most fascinating about the F-Type’s development. For the PlayStation generation it should perhaps come as no surprise to hear that much of the engineering has been undertaken in a virtual world, allowing Jaguar unprecedented hours of technical development. Now into real world testing there’s not so much honing to do as there is hooning.

So Jag’s engineers have been mucking about on a glorified Gran Turismo and have turned out a ground breaking sports car. Kinda feel like I should’ve been a bit more productive with my time in front of the telly...
