The Lamborghini 'Lambo V12 Vision Gran Turismo' Has A Terrible Name But Is Otherwise Awesome

It’s almost surprising it’s taken Lamborghini this long to get involved with the Vision Gran Turismo thing. The series of concepts started just over six years ago, and given the usually outlandish nature of these things, Sant’Agata Bolognese is well-placed to get involved.

Get involved it finally has, with this - the Lambo V12 Vision Gran Turismo. We’ll forgive the hilariously uninspiring name, as everything else is suitably silly.

It’s a single-seater, because in a racing game, “a passenger is not needed,” Lamborghini rightly points out. In terms of styling, it has more in common with a fighter jet than anything else in the Italian company’s current stable. It’s perhaps even madder than the Egoista single-seater concept of 2013.

Some Vision Gran Turismo cars use rather forward-thinking, at times even theoretical powertrains - don’t forget about when Chevrolet came up with that ‘laser-powered’ concept a few years ago. But the Lambo? Its method of propulsion is around right now - the hypercar uses the same hybridised 12-cylinder engine as the Lamborghini Sian. That means 808bhp, in a vehicle weighs around 800kg. Hello, 1:1 power-to-weight ratio.

We’d love to know how it drives IRL, but sadly, it exists outside of the digital world only as a full-scale model. There are no plans to make a working concept a la Audi E-Tron Vision GT, as far as we know.

You can’t drive it in Gran Turismo Sport just yet either - the car won’t be making its video game debut until Spring 2020. We’re sure it’ll be worth the wait, though.
