The Last Ever LaFerrari Raised $7m For Italy Quake Victims At Auction

The ‘extra’ LaFerrari built by Maranello has been auctioned off for a disaster relief fund to help those affected by the devastating earthquake that hit central Italy earlier this year

If you cast your minds back to September, you might remember a piece of news about Ferrari building one more example of its LaFerrari hybrid hypercar. And not just for the sake of it: the idea was to auction the thing off to the benefit of a disaster relief fund aimed at helping victims of the devastating earthquake that hit central Italy in August.

The car went under the hammer via RM Sotheby’s at last weekend’s Ferrari Finali Mondiali in Daytona, and it’s sold for quite a sum: $7 million, and it’s all to the benefit of the National Italian American Foundation’s Earthquake Relief Fund.

Jolly excellent news I’m sure you’ll agree, but there’s a cherry on top of this feel-good cake, in that this very special LaFerrari has just become the most valuable 21st century car to ever be sold at auction.

The LaFerrari - number 500 - features an Italian flag on the bonnet, plus a special commemorative plaque on the inside. And a ruddy great 6.3-litre hybrid V12 powertrain like every other LaFerrari, obviously.

What I hate about Pagani: They built the Zonda from 1999 to 2013, so for 14 years. The Huayra is beeing built since 2012. So, although all the special editions are already annoying as fck, we wont see a completely new Pagani until 2026. Wonder how they can think of Special Edition names for another decade.

“Sorry we’re not going on holiday this year and we don’t have any money to go visit your parents either. I’m afraid I wont be buying any jewelry for you as well. I donated all our money”
“Oh.. wow.. whats that red car outside by the way?..”
“Nevermind, its just the thank you letter from the charity…”

Honestly a great cause.
Me and my friends were there when the earthquake happened, and although it wasn’t quite as devastating as some other recent earthquakes it was scary to see how quickly everything can change. One day everything’s happening as normal and before you know it entire towns are rubble, peoples homes are gone and they’re living in tents, everything stops and peoples lives are irreversibly changed.

I’ve always been more of a Lambo fan than Ferrari but hats off to Maranello for this, seven million can go a long way in a situation like this.
Respect.

Yeah. Its scary, how in a flash, everything changes. One day its normal, next day it isn’t.

That said, I feel like what happened with the Pope and the Enzo has happened again…
