This Is The Last Ever Porsche 918 Spyder

21 months on, production of Porsche’s hybrid 918 Spyder hypercar has come to an end. The final car, number 918 of 918 (see what they did there?), can be seen in the image above getting a final polish at Stuttgart.

Its new owner will be able to enjoy 875bhp from the combination of a 4.6-litre V8 and a pair of electric motors, allowing for a 0-62mph time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 214mph. It’s still the production car record holder around the Nurburgring, and from the sounds of the apparent manufacturer lap time ban, it might well hold that record indefinitely.

However, as a successor has been confirmed, we’ve been pondering: just where will Porsche go for its next hypercar? Even more power? A greater reliance on hybrid power and a downsized engine? Perhaps a toned-down version of the 2.0-litre V4 used by the 919 World Endurance Championship racer could come into play. Whatever direction is taken, it’ll be fascinating to see.
