Lend Us A Tenner! Hamilton Named Wealthiest British Sportsman
Mercedes Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton has been named as the wealthiest British sportsman in The Sunday Times 2014 Rich List.
According to the list, his wealth has increased by £8 million over the last year. He is comfortably at the top of the table with a total of £68 million to his name.
He isn't the only Formula 1 driver to feature, with his former team-mate Jenson Button in second place. The McLaren driver is estimated to be worth £63 million.
Manchester United footballers Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand are third and fifth in the list with £60 million and £44 million respectively. Basketball player Steve Nash is fourth, with 2013 Wimbledon champion Andy Murray in sixth with £40 million.
The list is calculated by looking at identifiable wealth, including land, property, other assets (like art and racehorses), and significant shares in publicly quoted companies. Hamilton will be officially named Britain's wealthiest sportsman next month.
