Ah, the muscle car category. One of, or THE hottest topic on Carthrottle right now. Everyone has their different opinions and views, and people debate over them. And I thought: “Why not make a post about it? And why not show the subcategories in it?” And I did. Think of this as one big family tree. Right now, I am expressing my opinion, so if you want to stick with your opinion, stop reading.
Or keep reading.

The Primary Color - The Sports Car Category

Lets Set This Straight - My Take On The Sports Car Category and its Subcategories #blogpost

Starting off with the most familiar list to people, the Sports Car Category. To me, anything that is focused on the basis of fast is a sports car. That could range from low horsepower roadsters like the 167HP 124 Abarth, performance SUVs like the 555HP BMW X5M or hypercars, like the 1,244 HP Hennessy Venom. It dosen’t matter on the bodystyle, just of that basis of fast.

Now, the next few ones can get very complex, just bear with me. In this blogpost I will just go through the 2nd level of category, and if you want to see the categories under these, ask me personally and I’d be more than happy to explain to you.

The Secondary Colors - The Hot Hatches

This category would include:
Hyper Hatches, 3 door/5door Performance Hatches, etc.

These are usually bought by new drivers who want a taste of fast and fun mixed in with practicality and efficiency. These are usually fun to throw around and cheap to. Examples would be the Ford Fiesta ST, Honda Civic Type R and the Mercedes Benz A45 AMG.

The Secondary Colors - The Performance SUV/Trucks

This category includes:
SUV Performance Coupes
Performance SUVs
Performance Trucks
Performance Wagons
See where I’m going with this?

These are the people who want a fast car, but have a family to take care of as well. They usually come with big HP numbers and they are very very spacious, but aren’t very efficient. Examples would be the Jaguar F Pace, Range Rover SVR, BMW X6M, Alfa Romeo Stelvio and the Audi Q7 Quattro V12.

The Secondary Colors - The Saloons/Sedans

This category includes:
4 Door Rally Cars
Performance Sedans
4 DoorMuscle Cars
EV Sedans

This category is pretty straightforward. These usually are German and most have 4WD/AWD. Examples would be the Charger Hellcat, E63 AMG, Jaguar XFR, Audi RS7, WRX STI and the late Mitsubishi Lancer EVO.

The Secondary Colors - Coupes

This category includes:
Roadsters
Supercars
Hypercars
2 Door Performance Coupes
Muscle Cars
EV Coupes

This is the pretty big one. These are ones you would take a glance at and say “Hey, thats pretty sporty!” Most don’t have as much practically as the others, and this would be the fastest subcategory of the bunch. Examples would be the Mazda Miata, Tesla Roadster, Toyota Supra, Ford Mustang, Audi TTs, Lamborghini Gallardo, Koniegggsesseseeggeseessgggggesg One:1 and the Mclaren 570S.

And…. thats about it. I think. I hope you enjoyed reading this and tell me in the comments suggestions on my blogposts and questions about this blogpost.

If you want to call your insurance company and tell them you want your SUV categorized as a sports car… be my guest.

Yeah, that bit of the blog is kinda wrong.

The cars give, and focus on, completely different experiences of performance. Therefore, they should be catergorized differently. Not as a ‘Sports Car’ itself.

So I assume wagons belong to the sedan class?

Jia the Supra Fanboy

Hmmm, mechanically and structurally speaking, fast wagons belong with sedans….
But ethos-wise, they belong with the SUVs. Hmm.
Anyways, excellent post! Very clear and inclusive.
