This Luxury Apartment On Wheels Is Our Kind Of Motorhome

We'd always prefer to stay in a nice hotel, but if we absolutely had to travel in a motorhome, we'd consider making it this one

There are different ways manufacturers can tackle the idea of a motorhome. At the bottom end of the scale there’s the relatively affordable way, even if it does make your pickup look… interesting.

Then there’s the expensive way, but we definitely know which we’d pick if we could. Check out this incredible RV from Jayco, which is so big, comfortable and luxurious that we could quite happily live in it full-time. Given current property prices in London, it might not be a bad idea…

Called the Embark, let’s start with the exterior. Yes, it looks like a coach and yes, the paint scheme is rubbish, but there’s not much you can do with a vehicle of these dimensions to make it look good. Don’t worry about it, because it’ll all be forgotten as soon as you – or your guests – step inside.

It’s like a stylish, well-appointed apartment that would probably cost you seven figures if it was in a Western capital city centre block.

In the lounge you get a 50-inch LED TV with sound bar, a 32-inch flat-screen in the bedroom, a fridge, a microwave, a proper set of kitchen units and worktops, and a stainless steel sink. There’s a shower, naturally, as part of a fully-equipped bathroom.

The bedroom has a king-size bed and a wardrobe big enough to last you a long time on the road. You can keep your clothes fresh with the optional washing machine and tumble drier. Nice.

A touch-pad controls all the lights and heating, just like in that imaginary tech-heavy city centre pad we mentioned. You can add a fireplace, or you can even turn the outside into an open-air cinema thanks to an external 39-inch TV, a powered awning and more. Add solar panels for help feeding the on-board electricals. Or spec a satellite dish, if you like.

If you prefer it inside, you can upgrade to theatre-style seating for those movie nights in the middle of nowhere. It’s powered by a 360bhp Cummins diesel engine with 800lb ft at 1800rpm, but it’s probably best not to ask for performance figures. At least you can tell your friends you’re running Bilstein shocks and hydraulic self-levelling.

It carries a 100-gallon diesel tank as standard. If you’re wondering, right now in the UK that would cost about £545 to fill from empty, even using cheap supermarket fuel. The price for this leviathan of roadside comfort? It starts at $290,000. That sounds like decent value, to be fair, but imagine the number of nights in hotel rooms you could have bought for the same money…

290k? that is cheaper than most full sized stick built homes in my area, and it looks nicer than the lot of them.

They start at 290k but you have jack shit at this price. A well optionned out RV will set you back over 1m. Get a chauffeur, a car trailer (with conplementary GT3 RS) and tour the US’s tracks.
