Bloodhound SSC is an incredible project with very worthy purpose: to inspire young people to take up careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. By building a vehicle which will do hopefully do 1000mph on land. Brilliant.

Before Bloodhound, though, was the 763mph Thrust SSC, and before that car was Thrust 2. Richard Noble - the project director for Thrust SSC and a key member of the Bloodhound project - took this Rolls-Royce Avon jet-powered car up to 650mph in 1983. The project originally started with a budget of just £175.
