A Manual A90 Toyota Supra Has Arrived (From A Tuning Company)

It’s still not clear if Toyota will sell a manual version of the new A90 GR Supra. It’s certainly a possibility - its B58 inline-six is fitted with a manual ‘box in plenty of BMWs after all, and Toyota has indeed developed a six-speed transmission for the car.

Even at the launch of the car earlier this year, though, it was neither confirmed nor denied if the Supra would remain automatic-only at the point of sale. So, if you’d rather not wait to find out, you might want to give Knoxville, Texas-based EAG (European Auto Garage) a call. The tuner - famed for its Ferrari 430 Scuderia gated manual conversions - will do the work Toyota so far hasn’t.

Speaking to Car Buzz, EAG owner Art Bartosik confirmed that work has already started on what’s likely to be the first-ever manual A90, and that customer deposits are being taken.

The conversion - which is, as expected, done using BMW OEM parts - costs $12,000 and takes 30 - 45 days to finish. While you’re at it, you can also raise the power - EAG has partnered with BMW tuning firm ProTuning Freaks to offer a bump to around 420bhp.

The icing on the six-speed cake will be the shifter itself. The idea, Bartosik says, is to build something inspired by the gear knob used in the unusual GR HV concept. The button under its flip-up panel - which in the concept car activated the manual mode - will activate sport mode in EAG’s converted Supras. Neat!
