Mario Kart In VR Looks Like A Massive Amount Of Fun
Mario Kart Arcade GP VR is a Nintendo-licensed VR game made for a Japanese arcade, so it’s not going to be released on consoles any time soon – but we can always dream, can’t we? It’s the first time Mario Kart has been brought into the VR world.
It’s one of the attractions at Bandai Namco’s new Tokyo arcade VR Zone Shinjuku, which opened on the 14 July. The game is based on Bandai Namco’s current Mario Kart arcade cabinet with a seat, wheel and pedals, but it’s been reworked completely for VR.
Using a HTC Vive VR headset and custom strap-on controllers, it provides a whole new Mario Kart experience. One that looks like it completely transforms the gameplay to take you into the bright and colourful world of Yoshi, Luigi and Bowser.
Alongside the actual driving, the player is in control of the items – so, you have to take your hand off the wheel and do a mock throw to chuck the shell at your rival. You can see it in action above.
Mario Kart looks so, so cool in VR! We definitely want to give it a try now…
Hopefully it’ll be heading across to us at some point in the future.
