The McLaren 570S Sprint Is Woking's New 'Track Day Bro' Monster
The McLaren P1 GTR is pretty much the ultimate track day car. But if you want one, you’re out of luck. McLaren only made 35, sold them for almost £2 million each, and ‘invited’ only P1 road car owners to buy one. Happily, there is a solution: the track-only 570S Sprint. It was first announced earlier this year along with the 570S GT4, but this is the first time we’re seeing it, ahead of its Goodwood Festival of Speed public debut.
The Sprint starts at a much more reasonable £148,000 (around £5000 more than the road car), and for that what you’re essentially getting is a 570S GT4 that isn’t constrained to any racing regulations. You get a front splitter and floor assembly lifted straight from the GT4, a fixed carbonfibre wing and carbonfibre front canards. The latter two bits are optional extras, but you do get centre-locking magnesium wheels wrapped in Pirelli slick tyres as standard.
McLaren hasn’t shown us the interior yet, but you can look forward to a spartan, stripped-out space with an FIA-approved driver’s seat plus six-point harness (if you want to bring a passenger to scare the bejesus out of, a second seat is an optional extra) and a fire extinguisher in case things go horribly wrong. Unlike the P1 GTR - which relies on only the massive strength of its carbonfibre safety cell for rollover protection - the Sprint gets a full FIA-approved rollcage.
Worried you might grow weary of track days? Ron & co have you covered with the optional ‘Compliance Pack’, which will bring your car in line with FIA GT4 regulations.
If - like us - you’re too poor for any of this, make sure you get yourself down to Goodwood this weekend, where the 570S Sprint will be thundering up the world famous hillclimb.
