The McLaren 720S Has Finally Been Beaten In A Rolling Drag

After wasting just about everything it has come up against, the McLaren 720S has finally met its match for straight line speed... and it's a motorbike

The McLaren 720S has proved how ridiculously, face-bendingly fast it is against all sorts of machines, most recently out-dragging a Dodge Demon from a rolling start – a race that wasn’t even close.

Today, CTzens, we can bring you a video that was originally posted a few weeks ago, showing an informal rolling drag race between a 720S and a lightly tuned Kawasaki Ninja H2 motorbike. The 710bhp 4.0-litre V8 in the McLaren faces off against a 230bhp supercharged one-litre four-pot (although a ram-air effect boosts that to over 240bhp at speed). That is a very, very quick bike.

It’s a measure of the 720S’s epic, brutal acceleration that it gets the drop on the bike in both the rolling drags in this video, from what we think is about 40mph. It’s only after a second or two, when the Ninja gets into its stride, that it begins to dominate. That thing is a weapon. Needless to say, silly speeds are quickly achieved…

Ahhh… What is a “ram air effect”

The air enters the air intake and by the speed the car (or bike) has, it is forced into the throttle body, rather than having to be sucked in like ususal.

…by a bike. Really? We all know how fast bikes are. They weigh damn near nothing with insanely powerful engines by comparison. How anyone could think of any other result is absurd. It’s like pitting a Chow Chow (dog breed with the strongest bite) against a lion in a cage fight. One’s clearly strong as hell, but we all know what the result is gonna be.

Sorry if I’m just ranting, but for real, a bike, a superbike, against a car. It’s not anywhere near fair.

Agreed. It’s normal for sports bikes to have a power to weight ratio double the car they’re racing.

I think thats the whole point of the article and maybe the video

Not “omg a 720s was beaten lolol!!”
But “omg the only thing on the road that can beat a 720s is a superbike”

maybe that WAS the point of the video… some people still believe all cars are faster than motorbikes.

Not entirely. Bikes have problems at higher speeds due to much worse aero (a human and the holes he creates in the entire shape just aren’t aerodynamic) and you always have to factor in the rider’s weight. And on the other hand having less momentum due to much much lower weight is another problem against air resistance. Think about superbikes (the racing ones) they do 204 mph (thereabout) although they whey 260 kg with rider and fuel and have 250 hp. A car with that power to weight and decent drag coefficient does much much more. I’d bet everything i’ve got that every bike below a 1000 will be blown to pieces by the 720s and from 120 mph on those too. Not a rant, just a little pointing out on the side :)

Lets wait for the bp23

That will probably be really quick, but might also be a bit too heavy. It is also 1/106 and extremely expensive, so that race is unlikely to ever happen. Cool idea though.

233hp in a bike?
Gosh that thing must really fly.

That bike is a serious weapon. But I reckon if both drivers weighed 300lb, the 720S would triumph.

let’s go around a few corners now… it is not really fair to compare a car and a bike. They are completely different besides having an engine and wheels.

First off, do it with dan ftw, 2nd make your own content, 3rd this video has been up for days, your not even remotely close to being first to this.

First off they acknowledge that this video was posted a few weeks ago , secondly getting a 720s and h2 and then finding a place which they race at is rather difficult , therefore it would very difficult for them to make this ‘content’ themselves.
