McLaren Is Building A New Mid-Engined Grand Tourer
We weren’t expecting McLaren’s 2019 Geneva Motor Show presence to offer up any surprises. Woking’s main debuts consisted of the 720S and 600LT Spiders, two cars that have already been launched to the media. However, the British manufacturer had a little something up its sleeve: a new grand tourer.
Not that we know a whole lot about it. The name hasn’t been revealed, and all we have to go on in terms of the design is a single image of a heavily disguised test mule. McLaren has at least said that the mid-engined car will be a “unique, tailored model,” so it’s not going to be in a similar vein to the 570GT, which is merely a tweaked version of the 570S.
CEO Mike Flewitt said that the latest addition to the McLaren stable “will be a car that combines competition levels of performance with continent-crossing capability, wrapped in a beautiful lightweight body”. He added: “it will be the lightest of Grand Tourers and by also having the best power-to-weight ratio, I promise it will be one of the quickest.”
It’ll almost certainly be powered by a twin-turbo V8, and built around a carbonfibre cell. We shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out more, with McLaren promising to reveal the car within a few months.

I hope it will be the fastest Grand Tourer….IN THE WORLD!
At first glance, the rear kind of looks like a Ferrari F430
no
kek
looks a lot more like the new Vette prototype
It reminds me of a Corvette or a Camaro lol
At first glance, the second picture reminds me of an XJ220
i agree
An interesting competitor for the 812 Superfast - although it won’t ever sound as good as that 9000 rpm V12 😍
*812 Superfast
this is aimed at the top of the line Ferrari Grand Tourers.
It won’t sound as good but given McLaren’s form lately it will probably be the all-round better car.
I like the lines I see
I like-a what I see 👍👍
if they’re making it light they’ll be sacrificing comfort
if they make it mid-engined it cant have much cargo space
and if they make it a 2-seater there wont be much luggage space in the cabin
i did read somewhere, that they didnt do the usual weight saving techniques, and gave a better focus to interior materials and comfort.
also, i expect the luggage hatch to be similar in style to the 570GT but much bigger in size, as this is after all a bigger car
