McLaren Flipped On Its Roof In New Zealand Crash
With a production run nudging just over 100 and ever increasing, multi-million pound values, it’s kind of a big deal when someone bins a McLaren F1 (edit: it’s not an F1, see update at the bottom of the page).
With that in mind, here’s the latest unfortunate incident for one of Ron’s most precious creations, coming to us from Auckland. Middle-Earth New Zealand was - if you remember - the setting for another McLaren F1 crash late last year, neatly one-upped by the driver of this example, who managed to flip the car on its roof.
According to the New Zealand Herald, the supercar was said to be “screaming” along the Northwestern Motorway on Saturday afternoon, before leaving the road and hitting a barrier. One person - we’re guessing the driver - was taken to a local hospital to have “moderate injuries” treated.
In what’s one of the most amazing newspaper quotes we’ve ever heard, local man Jason Jones told the NZ Herald:
“I was mowing the lawns, all I could hear was Formula 1. It just ripped from beneath the bridge straight round…You could hear the car it was just roaring. Man, I don’t know how fast that car was going, but man it was going fast.”
Quite.
Edit: Upon closer inspection of the not particularly brilliant footage after seeing a heads-up from an eagle-eyed viewer, we’re thinking reports of this being an F1 from NZ Herald are incorrect. It’s hard to tell, but it’s probably something much more recent like a 650S.
