McLaren Is Going To Make A Stupidly Quick All-Electric P1

According to reports, McLaren is about to build a pure EV version of the P1 with 675LT-beating performance

With its 177bhp electric motor, the McLaren P1 is already rather brisk if it’s run in electric-only mode. But, it seems McLaren wants to go one step further than that, and produce a version of its hypercar sans twin-turbo V8, relying solely on lots of batteries and some stupidly powerful motors.

A company insider cited by Auto Express said that the company will create “an EV that’s as exciting as a 675LT,” a car that will “need to manage 30 minutes on track with a 30-minute break before heading back out again.”

Although it’ll sit in McLaren’s ‘Ultimate Series’, it won’t be a successor to the P1, something the source reported won’t be here until 2023 or perhaps even later, as the company is waiting for a sufficient step forward in automotive technology before it gets made. The electric P1 will form a sort of stepping stone, and is expected to have a price tag under £1 million. Not exactly cheap, but if it really ends up with 675-baiting performance, we could well be looking at a 200mph-capable EV.

So, environmentally conscious rich people of the world: how about a Tesla Model S and an all-electric McLaren P1 for the perfect two car garage?

“buys electric vehicle to be environmentally conscious, doesn’t realize that producing the batteries is more harmful than burning raw fuel.”

And electricity just doesn’t grow on trees you know, you still have to burn some fuel somewhere. And hydroelectricity doesn’t count, there’s still that pesky delivery charge >:/

Problem is it’s never going to make it around the ‘Ring. It’ll run out of battery…

My realization of what you said is frightening. Nurburgring record times will never be broken. :-(

Bring a Caterham To MARS

I love how people are sad about everyone going electrical and then say “it’s the evolution sadly” or “it’s what is more convenient”
Guys, making a super car isn’t convenient at all.
You know what’s convenient? Making a Golf. That’s the perfect car for everyone, why should you want a car any different? The handling is nothing less than what you need, same with top speed and acceleration. If cars were built following what’s more convenient,we wouldn’t have sportscars.

Exactly. Thats why i dont get why manufacturers are destroying everything good about their low volume sports cars to make them greener. Make normal cars greener, not the enthusiast cars.
