Meanwhile, In Russia, People Have Just Invented Car Curling
What do you do when you have a few old supermini bangers going spare, an ice rink and a healthy splash of imagination? If you’re Russian, you invent car curling.
Last weekend, dozens of people got together to push disposable old cars – with most of their weight stripped out – down a borrowed ice rink. Because of course they did. The formula is a pretty awesome one, with a plucky driver at the wheel and teams of contestants pushing the old Russian city cars as hard as they can until they fall over.
The cars roll down the ice rink towards a target in exactly the same way as proper curling, but the driver has a measure of steering control over their direction and can punt other cars out of the way.
You could probably even call it the first ever unofficial car curling world championship, and it looks like a good laugh. We can see it catching on in northern countries that are less health and safety bonkers than the UK…
