The Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster Is A 547bhp Drop Top With An Angry Face
Just a few days after dropping a cheeky teaser, Mercedes has given the new drop top version of its GT coupe its full reveal.
Just like the AMG GT and GT S, it’s available in two flavours: the Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster, and the GT C Roadster. The GT Roadster has the same 469bhp output as the entry level coupe, but the GT C is a bit of a surprise: it’s putting out a monstrous 547bhp.
That’s not just comfortably more than the AMG GT S coupe’s 503bhp - it’s not that far off the amount Mercedes has extracted from the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 in the bonkers AMG GT R. And on the subject of the GT R, the GT C also gets the former’s rear axle steering system.
The boggo GT is no slouch though, getting you from 0-62mph in four seconds dead, running out of puff at 188mph. The GT C meanwhile manages the benchmark dash in 3.7 seconds, topping out at 196mph.
Both send their power rearwards via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, with the GT C getting an electronically-controlled limited-slip differential, and the GT ‘making do’ with a mechanical version.
You might have also noticed it looks a great deal angrier than the coupe. That’s because it’s wearing new, GT R-inspired clothes, with bodywork that’s 57mm wider than the coupe’s, which means AMG has been able to stuff some fatter 305 section tyres in at the rear. Lovely.
Hiding in the furious looking front end there’s also an ‘active air management system’ pinched from the GT R. This consists of some electronically controlled flaps that open when needed to provide engine cooling, remaining closed the rest of the time to smooth out airflow over the car.
Want one? No prices have been revealed yet, but expect a 10 per cent bump over the £95,860 and £109,160 price tags for the GT and GT S coupes. We can also expect a facelifted pair of coupes featuring the angrier look of the drop top, while the GT S is likely to end up with the GT C’s power hike.
The GT and GT C Roadsters go on sale in the UK later this year, and will make their public debut at the Paris Motor Show.

Whem I first heard GT C I thought the C stood for Convertible. The all new Mercedes Grand Touring Convertible Roadster…
I thought Cabriolet. xD
The GT Roadster looks distinctively similar with it’s simple convertible roof system to the Benefactor Surano in GTA online game… was the car teased to us the whole time?! 😲
no, just coincidence
Illuminati confirmed :O
More like the lovechild of the SLS and F-Type.
the surano is more of an f type mixed with an sls in my opinion but good point
I think the nose of this car does not play nice with the roadster/convertible body. It tries too hard to be an aggressive bad boy. The previous generation car was much more fluid and svelte at the front making it a nicer convertible, imo. But I have to wonder, what life would be like at the wheels of a 550hp cabrio… I’d probably go bald in 2 months.
exactly my thought, the front grille doesnt suit the calm grand tourer character intended for the car
Isn’t the GT roadster more powerful than the coupe? Coupe=462hp/600Nm, GT Conv=476hp/630Nm as per Mercedes’ data.
It probably is heavier too
I spy with my little eye a future classic.
Thats the sexiest modern (2010+) car ive ever seen
The GTS will remain at 503hp, because there will be a GTC Coupe as well
Unlike nost roadsters, I really love thia one
There’s not one convertible I actually liked and this just changed that.
