Mercedes-Benz is busy reworking it's model lineup to make it more recognizable and easier to understand for consumers. For the recent redesign of the Mercedes E-Class, the CLK-Class moniker was dropped in favor of E-Class Coupe. For the new model, the E-Class Coupe still retains it's C-Class underpinnings though.
Even though the new E-Class Coupe is based on the C-Class, a coupe badged C-Class Coupe could still be coming as well. I know, it can get kind of confusing! The new changes are taking place all across the lineup though, going all the way up to the most expensive Mercedes model, the S-Class.
For model year 2011, the CL will be getting renamed to slot alongside the S-Class. CL no more; S-Class Coupe is the new name going forward. The renaming makes a lot of sense; the S-Class has a powerful brand name and is much more recognizable in the marketplace than CL. The CL was always thought of as the coupe S-Class anyway. In addition, it may bring more sales by allowing Mercedes to better focus marketing dollars.
When it does debut as the S-Class Coupe, expect some minor changes like updated headlights, taillights (LED) and front grille. While minor, all in all the changes should make the CL (turned S-Class) even better.
