Mercedes Wants In On The BMW X6 Action With Its MLC Concept

The niche-busting Mercedes range will gain a sportier version of the ML SUV, as previewed by this concept

As the niche-busting Mercedes-Benz range already features no less than five SUVs, you'd think the German manufacturer wouldn't be in much of a hurry to add another. You'd be wrong. Merc has unveiled this MLC concept, a sleeker, sportier version of the ML SUV.

It's not as daft a decision as it sounds, either. It'll serve as a rival to the X6, the sportier version of BMW's X5 SUV. That car has been a big sales success for the Bavarian manufacturer, and has already been on sale for a few years. So if anything, as with the GLA, Mercedes is a little late to the party.

The eventual production version will be based on and built alongside the 'regular' ML, and is expected in 2015. The concept will make its public debut at next week's Beijing motor show.
