Millionaire Boy Racers And The Rise Of The 'Carparazzi'

Channel 4 showcases the spate of summertime supercars dominating our City's streets

Do you dream of immense wealth, a million-pound supercar garage and regular jaunts to Knightsbridge for a spot of Harrods indulgence? Channel 4 have been listening and will tonight air their cutting edge documentary, "Millionaire Boy Racers".

The programme highlights the growing rift between Central London dwellers and the summer influx of rich, Arab millionaires who fly in their high-end exotics and supercars for some top-down city motoring.

So what's all the fuss about?

There appear to be two causes of controversy. With the recent death of a 29-year-old photographer chasing down what he thought was Justin Bieber in his Ferrari 458, half of the public malice is aimed at the so-called "carparazzi". These are the guys, armed with cameras, looking for the ultimate up-skirt shot of Imogen Thomas exiting Raffles, for the ultimate payday. They can be an annoyance and in extreme cases, a public danger, but they help to fuel the UK's celebrity-worshipping culture.

Then there are the furious locals. According to AOL Cars, "dwellers in Knightsbridge are furious about the antics of supercar-driving rich Arab tourists, and are calling them 'a manifestation of too much-ness'"

As always, there exists a happy medium filled with more sensible car photographers and enthusiasts. One such is Tim Burton, also known as Shmee150, who regularly patrols streets around South-West London in search of the world's most elusive pieces of metal. His videos centre on the cars themselves and as such seem to be non-intrusive and respectful.
