Mustang Race Car Driver Waits For Leader And Smashes Him Off Track
The incident took place at the Mid-Ohio circuit last month. The Runoffs are the finale of the SCCA season, with many championship divisions being invited to compete.
According to the video poster, Nick Feathers, the yellow Mustang driver Tom Sloe had an incident with white Mustang racer Andrew McDermid at the start. With two laps left he stopped on track, meaning everyone thought there was some mechanical issue.
But in fact he was waiting for McDermid to come back around. When the race-leading white Mustang went past on the final lap, Sloe got his car going again and took his rival out at the next corner.
Despite both cars spinning off, McDermid was able to continue, keep his position and win the race. So the intentional move from the yellow Mustang actually backfired spectacularly and made no difference to the result.
The video poster even said McDermid did a huge burnout in front of Sloe’s car on his lap back from the pits, which must have felt even more satisfying.
Sloe lost three positions from his race result and had his SCCA competition license suspended for one year too. He appealed but it was unsuccessful.
