TWO The Mustang has never stopped production.
In 2002 the Camaro stopped production “due to slowing sales, a deteriorating market for sports coupés,” The Mustang has had a model for every year since 1965, even when there was the debacle of the Mustang II. It seems as if the Mustang will never give up.
THREE Carrol Shelby
Who knew that a chicken farmer from Texas could have such a big impact on America’s sports car? He was a great racing driver, helped breathe some fire into the AC Cobra and the Ford Mustang and his name continues to adorne Mustangs throughout the world.
FOUR The Mustang has had better sales figures and it has a bigger fanbase.
By looking at the numbers, it’s obvious that the Mustang is more popular among fanboys and buyers alike. Not to mention that the Mustang has a better reputation internationally, it’s being sold in Europe as we speak. There’s strength in numbers.
FIVE The Mustang is lighter most of the time.
Looking at the numbers, the Mustang is more of a lightweight than it’s Camaro nemesis. The Foxbody Mustang is a good example of that, being a good platform for a drag car. In the sports car world, the lighter the better, which means that in a way the Mustang is better.
There you have it, reasons the Mustang betters the camaro. Both the camaro and the mustang are cars i want in my garage.

All that might be true, but you can’t deny that the Mustang has (especially in its V6 version) a kinda feminine image.

The V6 AKA Cylcone is a surprisingly respectable engine, spitting 305 HP from a NA V6 running relatively low compressions, allowing fro plenty of room to boost the car stock.
Also, aesthetically the Mustang GT and V6 variants only change in badging, and wheel choice. If you are simply mocking the fact that it has a V6, need I remind that the Challenger and Camaro sport V6s to.

Lots of interesting points. None of them really point out what makes a mustang better than a Camaro other than maybe the higher sales point.
the mustang has had some bad problems that have only just been solved. the new mustang is just as modern as most other new cars but past versions have had big issues. 1 the engine position has been right over the front wheels for 49 years. this led to vary bad handling in the bends. next is the power plant up till now has arguably been better the the camaro motors but the rest of the car falls apart. fords fit and finish is not as good as gm’s
In the late 60’s/early 70’s Ford decided to make mid-engined mustang, but it did very little to benefit the handling so they ditched the idea. Anyway, Mustangs are built to go in straight lines so it doesn’t really matter anyway

I’m a Mopar guy (nonbias on ford vs Chevy) and thing the Mustang and Camaro are overhyped, however I completely agree. I’m not here to bash, I’m here to present a legitimate argument.
This whole car vs car thing is stupid. If we’re talking about anything but factory new (which is the case with Mustangs and Camaros a lot of the time) it’ll be down to how the car was built, maintained, the driver, and more.
1 - The Mustang MIGHT be the original pony car. You could argue the original Barracuda was in early 64, or the GTO was in 64, or the original Corvette/Thunderbird which came out in the 50s. “Pony cars” were going to happen sooner or later and I don’t agree that the term came from the Mustang either. It could very easily be describing a car with a lot of HORSEpower and the term was sort of happenning in the late 50s anyways. The Mustang just happens to have a horse on it which may be why people associate it with the Mustang and how the term got popular. Muscle cars existed before the Mustang. And lets not forget, the Mustang debuted with a V6 and the first sold was a V6.
2 - The Mustang was built on the Pinto platform in the second generation. There, I said it. While the Camaro did cease production at the very least it was always a big American muscle car. The Mustang tried to be civilized and downsize with the times but for 5-6 years (two less than how long the Camaro was gone for in the 2000s) you got a floppy, not very good, Ford Mustang that shared DNA with a car that was known for blowing up. And that’s not something to shout about.
3 - Carroll Shelby, the man infamous for… The Cobra. Yes it used a Ford engine but lets be honest here that high power versions of the Mustang would have been made and sold whether he existed or not. If you call the Z/28 the Shelby Camaro instead (if he worked with GM) you’d be saying the opposite. A name doesn’t make the car.
4 - Sales figures are relevant and yet not irrelevant because if a car sells less it does not affect the real world performance of the car. A lot of people buy with their heart and not with their mind.
There were years where the Camaro was better than the Mustang and vice versa but a long graph showing sales figures will not depict that. Because regardless of it being a good car, people will but a Ford Mustang or a Camaro or a Challenger/Charger because they like what they’re buying more than the others. And most often it’s not because of performance figures.
I could very easily make the same argument for a Mustang, or for something from Mopar. This is a great clickbaity post, but there’s not really much of a reason why. It’s “Mustang did it first” (completely objective), “Mustang has been here forever” (completely ignoring the reality of the crap years), “A man”, and “Sales figures”. If you were a Ford accountant I wouldn’t be surprised because that’s how they want to market the car.
Don’t forget Chevrolet had Don Yenko, John Lingenfelter, Nickey Chevrolet (credited for helping create the super car genre), among many others that were on par with Carrol Shelby. Ford just used Carrol Shelby’s name for marketing. Oh, and Carrol Shelby left Ford for Chrysler for a while in the 80’s. I love Carrol Shelby, but not a good reason to say the Camaro was better than the Mustang because there is more than a fare share of guys who did the same for the Camaro.
Not hating or disagreeing, but there are a couple of counterpoints I’d like to make:

[1] Peugeot build the very first car ever. Is a peugeot really THE better car?
[2] Sales gone down because of newer and stricter safety regulations.The 4th gen (93-02) platform based nearly completely on the 3rd gen (82-93).Instead of rebuilding a plant (camaro & firebird) they demolished the plant, sold the land and opened a new and modern one for the next generation/s.
[3] Yenko, SLP, Lingenfelter, Hennessey.
[4] Camaro never been sold officially in europe until the 5th gen (09-13). Only through imports.
Even though imho you should double the sales numbers of the camaro as being the - also “bad sold” - Pontiac Firebird/TransAm is nearly identical to the Camaro and has been build in the same plant/s.
[5] lighter doesn’t mean a mustang is faster.
[6] 435hp vs 455hp, if you’re comparing numbers.
Silly boy, thinking cam numbers mean anything, while it allows for the engine to breathe more easily, it makes the engine heavier, taller, and more complex. The LS is also a whole 1.2 liters bigger, running various compression ranges depending on where the engine come form.
I wish Yenko would resurrect a 6th gen. Guess Nickeys 5th gen will do..
The 455 hp Camaro runs the LT1 engine, which has 4 cams. The more you know!
He really does need to add in Firebird/TA numbers. The Mustang for forever was the only performance car offered by Ford. Camaro wasn’t the only one offerent by GM that was based on the same platform anyways.
For one, there’s only about 30 pounds difference in engines. The Chevrolet LS only made 455 up to this last year with that being the highest n/a v8 the put in a production car. Ford has been squeezing more and more hp out of the coyote for years now. Complexity, maybe, but it’s a more efficient engine overall. Ford is also moving towards flat plane cranks while Chevy is still building pushrod motors. Fact the Ford’s doing more per litre is all that matters. Sh!t, the z28 has 7 litres and makes 20 less hp then the GT350 with 5.2L and 526 hp.
