My favourite sounding V8 engines of all time. Part 3/7 #BlogPost
Okay, third part if this series. We’ve covered V12’s, V10’s, and now on to the V8’s. Wether they’re crossplane crank or flat plane crank engines, the sound of a roaring V8 is hard to beat. The following list has no particular order. So let’s get to it.
Okay, third part if this series. We’ve covered V12’s, V10’s, and now on to the V8’s. Wether they’re crossplane crank or flat plane crank engines, the sound of a roaring V8 is hard to beat. The following list has no particular order. So let’s get to it.
1 - Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (C6)
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, featuring a 6.2 litre, supercharged pushrod V8, developing 638bhp and a whoping 819Nm (619lb-ft) of torque, is for me, the craziest Corvette ever and it sounds so mean!
2 - Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale
The 360 Challenge Stradale is undoubtably one of the best sounding Ferraris ever. From the lower revs, you’d think the sound it makes is nothing special compared with the standard F360 but when those exhaust valves open, dear Lord, that noise!
3 - Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG
The C63 AMG is truly the muscle car of europe. This 5 seater saloon might look like just another Mercedes to the untrained eye, in fact, in a lot of countries in europe, the C class is used as a taxi car (the diesel variations of course) and that’s what makes this car so cool, it has the sleeper factor but when you put your foot down and hear that monstruous engine you know it’s no regular merc.
4 - Jaguar F-Type R Coupe
This thing, with it’s loud exhaust and all those crackles and pops just sounds like it came straight out of hell. The sound it makes really suits the character of the car and the brand name, it really sounds mean like a feline (Jaguar).
5 - McLaren P1
Some may find the sound of McLaren’s V8 boring and too artificial but I personally love it, specially in the P1 because when you’re onboard you can hear the turbos spooling and the blow off valves! It sounds so cool!
And here’s another video where you can hear the onboard noise! Love it!
6 - Shelby Mustang GT350R
I’ve always liked the Shelby variations of the Mustang, not because of the noise in particular but for the sheer power and the aggressive looks, until now. The GT350R sounds amazing and I absolutely love it!
7 - Audi RS6 Avant (C7)
I think I’ve talked so much about this car, I don’t even know what to say about it anymore. Only that it’s one of my favourite cars ever and that it is part of my dream garage.
8 - BMW M3 (E92)
This is simply my favourite M3 of them all. I fell in love with this car when I first heard it going past me at full speed. The induction noise is fabulous, the 4.0 liter N/A engine reving up to almost 8500 rpm (!!!) is definitely one of the best sounding cars ever. Bonus points if you fit a Supersprint exhaust on it.
9 - Ferrari 430 Scuderia
Ask me what is the best sounding Ferrari V8 after the Challenge Stradale and I wouldn’t hesitate to tell you it’s the 430 Scuderia. I’ll have to confess though I’m not a big fan of it’s valve system in the exhaust so getting rid of them is probably what I’do if I owned one, because when they’re closed the car is just too quiet, but like the 360 CS, when they open up, it sounds phenomenal!
10 - Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR
Like the M3, I’ve been a fan of this car ever since I saw one going full speed. The noise it makes might not sound like much through a simple video but when you hear the thing live you’ll know what I’m talking about. The supercharger whine together with the 5.5 liter V8 developed in association with McLaren sounds great.
This concludes the third part of this series. Hope you guys liked it! Please share your thoughts in the comments below! Next up: V6 engines!

Can’t believe you’ve missed out the Maserati Gran Turismo 4.7 in any of its variants or it’s cousin the Alfa Romeo 8C Conpetizione.
Forgot about basically any hemi v8, they sound way better than ferrari high reving thing called engine
For my too
Nice, but you messed the c63 up , the taxis are e classes not c’s
In my country they use both.
The 2014-15 z/28 sounds mental :)
Fact check, the LS9 V8 in the ZR1 actually makes 604 lb feet of torque stock. I saw 619 and I was sure that was a little high.
Personally, I think you should have included and old V8, whether it’s a Mopar 440 or a V8 in a 70’s Mercedes
