The New 664lb ft Diesel V8 VW Touareg Will Do 0-62 In 4.9 Seconds
The VW Touareg‘s engine line up will soon be a little less limited. Right now, you can have it with a diesel V6, and… that’s it. But along with a 335bhp petrol V6, VW has today announced that a 4.0-litre diesel V8 will soon be joining the range.
Spec it, and you’ll have 418bhp to play with. That’s a little less than you get in the Audi SQ7 - which has the same V8 with a different turbo setup - but you still have the full 664lb ft of torque to unleash upon the tarmac. 0-62mph happens in just 4.9 seconds - faster than a lot of hot hatches, and only slightly slower than VW’s own Golf R. It’s also an identical acceleration figure to the considerably lighter VW T-Roc R.
You can have it as either in ‘Elegance’ trim, which is “dominated by metal and cool colour tones,” VW says, or as Touareg ‘Atmosphere’ with a “warm interior environment where wood and natural tones prevail”. Neat.
Equipment levels are better the V6 TDI’s, with the V8-powered version gaining standard-fit air suspension, ‘Tirano’ 19-inch wheels (instead of 18s), a powered boot lid and more comfortable seats.
It’s due to hit several markets in May, although it’s not currently known if it’ll make it to the UK.

4.9 seconds to 60mph from a Diesel…..that is impressive to say the least!
If you uses the metric system, 900 NM of Torque.
Yeah, but who would think people still use metric? Lol, sucks they won’t just put a bit more effort in this app and their posts.
Holy mother of…
That’s almost as much as the 6.0 V12 TDI at 1000nm of torque
The correct system.
Also known as 90kgfm of Torque.
I like the older Touareg better for the looks
0-60 in 4.9 seconds? That is like a 2 on the Doug score
Ya cuz doug doesn’t use categories properly so a big suv is compared to a 918.
well it does cancel out on the practicality side
It needs a V10 tdi
Definitely lol
And a V12 TDI
sees v10 TDIs literally fall apart
maybe it doesnt
In b4 no mra
It probably has room for some tuning
Finally a big v8 diesel again! With chip tuning it probably will get over 1000nm of torque
How about putting that engine in the Phaeton an make it AWD?
uhm,
cause they havent made the Phaeton since 2015?
A V8 in a Volkswagen??? Am I a joke to you
