The New Bentley Flying Spur Has Weird 3D Textured Leather
The Bentley Flying Spur isn’t quite here yet but the English brand has seen fit to release an unusual teaser – focusing on a strange new leather trim effect.
Two photographs have been sent to the media showing a new 3D textured leather door trim insert. Similar to quilting from a distance, the close-up shot proves that it’s nothing like.
Through a mystery process, Bentley’s craftspeople have been able to tease deep diamond-esque shapes out of a single sheet of leather. In turn the shapes create vastly more highlight and shadow contrast than other existing finishes, and it must be a joy to photograph.
The Flying Spur will share most of the same improvements as the Continental GT, including the Porsche Panamera-derived chassis, 70kg weight saving, better weight distribution and the pairing of W12 and V8 engines; the latter being all-new and a further 70kg lighter.
In the Continental GT, the W12 produces 626bhp and will send the autobahn-crusher to 207mph. The 4.0-litre V8 is slightly less mental, with 542bhp to speak of, but the front-end weight saving should more than compensate on the GT. The four-door Flying Spur, though, was made for the big W, and we’re looking forward to the reveal.
